In Puerto del Carmen there are very good beaches and we recommend the beach of Matagorda, Playa de los Pocillos, Playa Grande, Playa Chica (highly recommended, side by side to the 4* Hotel Fariones in the centre of Puerto del Carmen). Do not miss in Puerto del Carmen its Old Village called by locals old town "el pueblo", in the old town of Puerto del Carmen you will see fishermen in the area of the Varadero because this is the only marina "port" of this area. Here in the old town, side by side to the marina, there are many local people and the atmosphere that you breathe is not as tourist as the rest of Puerto del Carmen because there are still fishermen who come to "operate" bringing the catch on the port. Plus you'll find all kinds of boats for trips to several areas including Fuerteventura. This is a very recommend place and if you like also you can eat in any from line restaurants or bars to go out at night, like The San Miguel Brewery place which is visited by the locals of the island. Puerto del Carmen also is know as pdc belongs to the municipality of Tias.
